    Creating a Business Name

    Hey Guys,

I'm having a hard time coming up with a name for my marketing business. I would really like to get creative in the name. Where do I go to find some inspiration into creating a name. Getting clients leads for their business. Any thoughtful ideas? Appreciate it!

    Thanks...Robert

I always start with extensive research on domain names. I've found a couple of times that I'll see a domain available that I would have never thought of. You need a good .com these days more then ever to lend credibility to your business...

    Hey DuxMyMan,

I actually authored an article on this exact topic just a week ago. You can find it here: StartupSidekick | How to name your business

If you are looking for the (very) short version of what's inside the article:
    - Keep your name short (less than 5 syllables)
    - Convey the meaning of your business
    - Make it catchy
    - Use Free Tools to help you. They will make your job MUCH easier. I have provided links to them in the article above

If you want more info, check out the article posted above. I'm sure it will be of help to you

    These are good tips.

I know how frustrating it can be trying to name something, because as a marketing business sometimes the name can be everything (it seems).

I'm no expert on the topic, but when naming my businesses... I first hit up domain.com to see if any of my ideas are even available... there is no point in falling in love only to find it already taken.

I then I think about what I want the business to do and try and come up with a list of 1-3 word names that describe this well. I search all of these on domain.com to see if they are taken. If I like a few, I may use a dictionary/thesaurus to broaden my word pool.

If all this fails, I will ask a creative, trusted friend what ideas come to their mind (this will plant other directions for your mind to go) and/or I will take a break for a couple days and then come back fresh. Usually, this is when I come up with the name I love and it just hits me.

It can get stressful trying to move on from this early step, but try to relax and take your time. There's no point in rushing into a bad name.

    Good LUCK!

One way you could do it is find a few words that describes your business and then use a thesaurus to find different words for them. That could be a good starting point.
This may not work for everyone tho

I don't think this is necesarily prevalent to your question, but also consider how your name will be used. For instance, in healthcare docs tend to use a provider booklet that is in alphabetical order... Would have been good to know before I named our company with a U! This is also true for phone books etc. So little things like that can be important as well.
