Question Concern about PayPal with online business

    Whats up guys,

Im in the process of developing an online business. I got my payment methods set up and everything. However, right now I can only afford the PayPal Standard payment system, and when customers are re-directed to the PayPal site to pay the email address of my PayPal account is shown at the top of the page.

Im concerned because it gives off an unprofessional feel, and I also dont want my personal contacts floating out there like that.

Anyone with any experience with PayPal have any solutions?

    Thanks.

You can integrate with their API to give a more seemless feel. An alternative besides PayPal is to do your own merchant processing and in many cases you can get comparable rates.

You'll need to shop around but your own merchant processing account would be ideal. This way you can accept credit cards directly on your interface rather than use a third party service. There are hundreds of thousands of merchant processors to choose from so you'll want to shop around and compare. Alternatively, a direct PayPal competitor (some what) is Google Checkout, but you'll find the same limitations you're having now. Essentially if you want to keep with that route, just leverage their API to integrate the payment system into your site.

I started with just PayPal and then after a few months I added authorize.net. I created a business pay pal account and used an email address like paypal at domain dot com
Today my users can use either paypal or credit card to make a purchase from my web site.

Authorize.net is definitely a good pick for anyone with a serious business. It's not all that expensive and it gives your business that extra bit of credibility. I believe it costs something around $25/month + a small fee from every transaction made.

Some of the packages allow a user to download transactions from the web into the accounting database. This is an excellent feature. However, if the transaction volume is relatively small (3-4 transactions per day), having that functionality, may not be required. PayPal and other processing systems can download them into an Excel format or other format, as well.

If you switch your paypal account to a business account instead of showing your paypal email address it will show your business name, when you say you can afford it, it doesn't make sense as you only pay the fees when you someone purchases from you so you don't need to pay anything until you sell something. Paypal is one of the cheaper alternatives for payment processing.

1ShoppingCart is another great service however it is a bit more expensive than paypal but they offer so much more.

I know we all want that more professional appearance, but if you are giving them a quality product/service it's not going to matter one bit. I use e-junkie.com which just goes through paypal.

If you are using Paypal, you can set up so that you have a custom banner at the top of the page. It's really not all that hard to do and it's much more professional than just having you email address in it. Since I did this, my sales rate has gone up so I know that it works.

Here are the directions from PayPal on setting this all up. (The link wont show up because I have not posted 10 times yet. Just copy and paste it into your browser.)

    paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/mer/cowp_summary-outside

It's really easy to do. All you need to do is log into your paypal account, click the "Profile" tab, then go into the "Custom Payment Pages". From there, you just follow the steps.

    Hope that this helps.

If you have formed a company (even a DBA), then get it linked to your Professional/Business PayPal Acct. The business name will show instead. You just have to verify your business (dba acct) same was as individual. Takes same amount of time and doesn't cost much either.

    Good Luck!

Paypal is the easiest to setup. I have used 1shoppingcart and 2checkout before but still use paypal for bulk of the transactions.
