    Company Name Suggestions??

Hey, guys. I'm in the process of rebranding a business project I got going and wanted to go with a new name.

Basically, the project is a dining guide I've been compiling regularly promoting local restaurants in the area. Its currently only in a small Magazine/Brochure form and only serves 2 small areas. I want to start covering more areas of the city and push it live on the web, offering coupons, advertisements, and reviews. I want it to first start in the city I'm in (Atlanta) and potentially, make it a national thing.

This being said, I'm struggling coming up with a catchy name, I like, that I can use for the Book as well as have the available .com domain. I want it to be unique and easy to remember.

Any suggestions from you creative folks out there??

This is hard to do, especially with tough competition from yellow book companies, offers magazines, and whatnot. You might want to check your local newspaper, your local convience store, or where-ever you promote your guide/magazine/brochure.

In fact, do a market research by talking to your customers, see what they like in a name. Become this "mystery" shopper. The best time to do this kind of research is when you're re-branding your company.

Thanks for the input. Keep in mind, the web isn't going to be the primary means of income as the guides are doing well. The web would be a project in itself that I would challenge myself to blow up as big as possible. Anyone else??

That name is taken, although it's brilliant. And PM him your suggestions so people don't steal the names.

Although it's not updated to the minute, this is a useful tool for checking domain availability. PCNames.com

I use it all the time. If it says the domain is available, just double check on GoDaddy.com

    Hostgator is better

and when checking URL domain names use Internic | Whois

Because they are not affiliated with any hosting company. I heard somewhere that Godaddy and others will let you submit a name and then actually hold the name to resell to you, not sure if that’s true or not.

Do a brainstorm. Spend a half hour writing every idea that comes into your head, no matter how stupid it sounds. It will help you get over your block, and when you start digging through all the nooks of your brain, you start coming up with your best stuff.

As a rule of thumb, the name of your business should clearly tell what your business is.

There are exceptions to this rule (Apple for computers...?, etc.), but choosing a business name that tells your audience what you do is a good place to start from.

Somebody mentioned a brainstorm, which is a fabulous idea for coming up with words that represent your business. As some added guidance for that process, brainstorm the following things.

    1. Who you serve
    2. What you serve (what is the value that you bring to the table for your market)
    3. Where you serve
    4. Why you serve
    5. How you serve

After you've come up with multiple lists for these different categories, go to Domain Search - BustAName.

There, you can add as many words as you'd like, and bustaname.com will spit out different combinations of those words that are available for registration.

Feel free to PM me for any further questions or collaboration.

I've been with GoDaddy for years, have purchased a lot of domains (even doing searches and coming back months later to buy them). I've never seen this with them.

I do know what you are talking about though, and I recommend staying away from the fly-by-night domain registrars.
