Cool College Party finder iphone app, local or worldwide?

Hi guys! I would appreciate anyone reading this to give me their thoughts as I've invested alot of time and money into developing a new iPhone application.

I've created a FREE party/event finder application that I'm about to submit to the app store. The app uses the GPS on your iphone to show events that are within a 10mile radius of their current location. The app is targeted towards college students who might be bored on a Friday night and have nothing to do. They check the app and immediately they can see the upcoming parties around them. I'm not gonna go into more details in case someone steals this 'cool idea' You'll be able to download it yourself a bit later

My original plan was to have the app available and marketed to just one city or campus by campus, let it build some word of mouth and hype in the city, and then expand to other regions. But now I'm thinking it might be a better idea to make the app available worldwide, however that might prove to be ineffective and the app may turn out to be a fail.

I've just been thinking and thinking about what to do here, as this decision will ultimately decide whether it's a success or not.

Once again, ANY FEEDBACK would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

    Thanks guys!!
    Nick.

It would be a cool idea, but Facebook would be the best in any situation because most people are on facebook. Good luck.

Facebook events is a totally different thing. You only see the events you get invited too. With the app, you get to see all events in a close proximity from where you are.

    Hey mate, great idea, no doubt you need to firstly target one city;
It will be slow at first so by targeting one city you can add events you know of at local bars etc to kick things off. The more events the better. I would definitely use it, but it must have lots of frequent events.
Now I would contact local businesses and let them enter their events for free such as college night at the local club or whatever. This will expand the events and get interest from local business which is great for sponsorship and paid ads down the track.

Msg me if you would like some more help,
    Robbie

That sounds like a good idea but can also be an easy way for the cops to find and bust every college party. Also, if you are not invited to a party don't you think it is a little weird to just show up?

    cheers thanks,
The apple guys will only allow you to target a minimum of one country, not city by city, so first it's going to be released in Australia.
Events will be updated on a regular basis in each of the seven major cities in australia.

Just some problems now whether or not to keep a "create a event" feature available to the public. Could cause alot of problems with people making house parties at random peoples addresses as jokes. and as teddyb12 said, cops busting parties.. hmm

    hey wiggy,
Well my strategy is get a few people in universities to use the app, and they tell their friends, multiplier effect, boom!
I'll get to these people through forums, twitter, facebook. Since it's a free app, paid methods would be too costly. Although I want to put admob ads in the app so it can generate some revenue! But first I'd like the idea to spread, and then monetize
