I was wondering if anyone could refer me to any contacts they may have with clothing manufacturing overseas or in the US. I own a sports apparel line called LeaderWear. We are looking to make some contacts with manufacturers, but I wanted to see if anyone could help me on YE first. Thanks!

I worked in the early 90's with China Resources Holdings Limited in Beijing (Listed on the HK Stock Exchange) and they had manufacturing lines all over the People's Republic of China.

You can check the website at: www.chinaresources.com (total revenue p.a. is about 4 billion usd) and they are one of the largest manufacturer in China and have as well access to the quota's needed to export to countries such as the European Union.

Another country which has excellent quality and as well a lower cost in production is Viet Nam. If you want to source a manufacturer more nearer to the US, you could manufacture and outsource to a sub-contract company in a NAFTA country such Mexico and ship it to the US.

Important is always to follow the latest development of the Commerce Ministry and as well monitor if any sanctions are against any country for violating quota's or if any anti dumping suites are pending in the US or by the EU.

The Canton Fair in guangzhou is a great place to find garment manufacturers . There are over 5,000 different garment factories showing virtually every product exported to the USA.

GREAT THREAD!!!! I have a sewn product manufactured and was going to offer advice but the posts are very thorough! Alibaba.com is good for searching manufacturing abroad.

I have my product made in the U.S. by personal choice and I know extensive info from research on sewing. In the U.S. I think MFI International in El Paso, TX is the largest and most equiped with outsource capabilities to many countries around the world if the customer requests abroad manufacturing.

Dave Nielson 303-589-7077 is a pretty good manufacturers rep for overseas manufacturing. A rep may make 7-10% but they also get you the better price and ensure quality for the most part as they have more experience.
