crackah, the first step is to decide what you want to import. It may be true that the product is available less expensively from some country other than China.

If you aren't ready to bring in container loads, the manufacturers will not bother with you. You need to find the right product, and the right contacts. I'm Chinese, and i'm from Shenzhen. I've been living in the US for most of my life now, and been doing import for about half a year now. Can't say that i know everything yet, but if you need help. PM me once you know what product and what quantities you can handle, maybe i can help you out. But i'll tell you straight out if the risk is worth taking or not. If you dont have accounts in Australia already, i suggest you don't. The best way to start is still "Local buy, Local sell" until you have the capacity to import. Or else your overhead on freight, customs, miscellaneous fees, etc will not be worth it. Basically an example is, i can spend the same money to bring over a 53 footer container as you would for maybe a pallet or two pieced into other people's containers. The fee for piecing loads alone is not worth the money. Hope this helps.

I was in Beijing & Shanghai for the first time earlier this year, I was suprised how many people - in business spoke english.

To find companies, I would first decide what products I wanted to market and then look for trade shows in China that coincide with these products. Often there are a ton of companies listed and you can begin emailing / faxing / calling to get in contact with them.

    Thanks for the replies!

I'm currently unsure! i would just like to inform myself on the details on what I and cant do etc.

I was thinking Computer hardware, as i currently sell it on Ebay, but its different to importing it and then selling it as i sell used hardware, where i would be making 100-200% of what i paid for it.

Selling new hardware would make me... 10%? 20%?

So im just looking on what i can do to sell more.

I currently have no idea where to get new, used hardware so im not making money
