What's a cell phone music service? IN other words, you may want to be a little more clear so as to get a better sampling of answers.

Why would people use a new service when existing services that directly download and are configured for cell phones, created by major music distributors (Sony, Universal Music) in conjunction with major cell phone providers (T-Mobile, Verizon) already exist?!

You'd be competing in a space where you have no advantages in the marketplace unless you possess significant contacts within the music industry, significant contacts within the telecommunications industry or a brand/name that people know and recognize.

Case in point: jamster and jamdot (those annoying, "text 55555 to get the newest 50 Cent" commercials) took 4+ years to take off in the states after having SIGNIFICANT success in Europe and Asia.

You know what would be cool? Some add-on or web application that would connect to my iTunes that would allow me to chop up songs and send the chops to my cell phone via a text message.

i.e. I go to this website. I install the web application. It finds my iTunes and loads my songs onto a web browser temporarily. I can pick a song out of my iTunes (or buy it from iTunes) and then using this software I could chop it up - so cut it down to 45 second snippets or something. When I'm done splicing and playing, I can click a "send" button and it would send this newly created ringtone to my phone in the form of a text message.

That would eliminate the need for 3rd party, phone specific software programs like Motorola PhoneTools and LG's crappola software sync thing AND it would eliminate the need for things like Sync cables or USB Mini cables.

And I could see MTV as a potential buyout. But then creating a business within the idea of selling it it is a bad idea. Don't believe me? Click Here
