cancel a business name
Can I cancel a business name or the business itself and then transfer the tax id to a new name, or should i cancel that too. Will they allow me to file for another tax id? I have tried to get a tax id for another business i was starting and they denied me. HELP!!!!

Went through this recently, hope this helps. If you want to change the business name and or practice without paying to get another tax id, register the new trade name then send a letter to your state DRS with the new and old information. They should have the info on your state website. They changed it for me in less than 2 weeks for free. All I had to pay was $10 for the new trade name.

Who denied you? The IRS? I have never heard of that before. They basically performed the breathing test on me and gave me the EIN number.

Why do you not just file for a DBA or doing business as in your state, then you can use the new name as well?

How are you incorporated? LLC? Corp?
