Can you buy out a successful business?

I was just wondering, I go online and shop at these successful online businesses. Is it possible to some how own one of these businesses even if they are not listed for sale. A website I have as an example is SOCCER dot COM

For the right price, most businesses are for sale. However, in the case of your example of soccer.com, I'd imagine that even if there was no business built for that domain and you simply wanted to purchase the domain, it would run you into the millions of dollars. Add a fairly profitable business onto that and you could be talking several times that easily. Like I said, though, just about any business is for sale. Whether you would pay WAY too much to ever become profitable again is a totally different question.

As stated above, majority of businesses would sell up if the offered amount pleases them. Successful internet businesses are sold everyday over at SitePoint with prices ranging from $250-$25,000+ so it's definately possible.

If you do indeed own soccer.com then you should be receiving LOTS of type-in traffic and it would be extremely silly not to monetize that traffic.

That would be a lucrative domain to own.

Yes, you can make an unsolicited offer to purchase a company.
