Buying websites/domains, How do people make money from buying one of these websites ?

I mean you buy it like from sedo.com I mean you buy a website, How does this website bring you money ? is it just a scam ? I mean what does these websites do that bring you income ? For example I like video games or lets say motorsports I buy a website/domain etc. that I updated with the latest news on the category. How would that website bring me income ? Someone please explain

You would put up advertisements to make money and if someone specifically wanted your domain they would buy it for a lot.

The type of websites your talking about generate more money then you can believe at times!

If your interested in doing something like it ie. blogging you have to hit the rights spots on what people want to read and drive massive amounts of traffic to your site, the more traffic the more likely people will want to advertise with you. Easy money if you hit jackpot!
