Buy paintings from another country - sell from US

Hi. If I am planning to sell paintings here in United States and orther countries and I will get all my products from China for example, do I have to pay any kind of import tax here in the US? (my business is based here in US). Where do I get information regarding this topic? Thanks...

You should check with customs at the port you are planning on shipping through (if you are planning on bringing in large loads). If not you can contact your shipper to see what documents you'll need ti get your items into the country. Many times the tax (or duties as they are called in this case) are based on the declared value of the item you are shipping in. Before calling someone like DHL make sure you have the right info: What are you shipping, how do you want to ship it, what is the size and weight of the package, what are the contents, what is the value of the contents, where are shipping from (exact address) and where are you shipping it to (exact address). You can guesstimate most of this but do not call a shipper until you have all the needed info.

I'm not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. I do have experience shipping both consumer goods and vehicles from the US to other countries. In most cases when duties are warranted it is the responsibility of the end user to get the needed documentation and fees taken care of. I also have warehouse space available to meet your drop shipping needs if you do not want store the items yourself!
