Buy from Far East, resell in West?
hi everyone, it's a pleasure to be here
can money be made by buying products in the Far East - like Singapore - and then reselling them here in the richer West. i was thinkning about technology like ipods, laptops, cameras.
are things considerably cheaper in the east?
will there be any limits to how much stuff can be taken through customs?
thanks for any replies

yes, you can buy lots of things far cheaper, but business is business, and a lot of asian companies won't deal with you unless you have money to spend. Check ericesquires thread on the dropshipper site... http://www.worldwidebrands.com
we are going to get a joint account with these guys and they deal with dropshipments under $500.00
BTW, if you have money to spend, check out alibaba.com, it's only the 4th or 5th largest site on the net =)
also, tradeboss.com has good deals if you're spending big bucks.
Depending on what you deal with, there will be limitations on anything. You have to check locally with where you plan on shipping to and from. Don't deal with far east companies that you can't find a reputable reference from, unless it's a very small order to test them. I ordered 50,000 blank cd's once and got crap that you wouldn't use in your 8 track.

thanks for the reply, i ws only thinking about it in small quantities to earn a little money on the side. my sister-in-law is an air hostess with an eastern airline, she flies over here frequently, i was thinking about getting her to bring over a load of cameras, ipods or small laptops every time she comes over, and then resell them on ebay.

Yeah, I tink that could be a good business to start off with since electronics like cameras, mobile phones, laptops, etc here are way cheaper than in most countries in Europe, and most importantly, they are made here (Japan, China, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, HONG KONG, Malaysia). I actually thought of starting to do something like this, but where can I find customers in Europe? I live in Thailand and can't really travel to Europe so often, only once a year, so this would make it uncomfortable for me. But I really think its a good idea. And yes, there's definately a limit of bringing goods to another country, but if you want to ship it (if its a good load of good) I think it would be a better idea.

Yeah actually I just looked on a website of some website from here. But there's a shopping mall here, called Pantip Plaza, which has 6 floors of pure Computer stuff and electronics. There's lots of real cheap stuff, im sure u can get that Ipod for about 50 pounds there if not less.
