Business while in College

I have been wondering for some time how it is possible to start a business while dealing with college classes and college in general? I would like to start something, but the summer is almost over with and I will be heading back to school. I've tried Ebay, but I don't have much stuff to sell. I was thinking along the lines with something over the internet so I don't need to have inventory stacked up in my room, and it is also something I can work on while I'm not at home, or in my home town, or wherever that business would be.

I've seen posts where people younger than me are venturing into their own businesses and trying to find something profitable and here I am wondering what to do.

Ive never had any troubles being in school and doing business. Your only in class a few hours a day on average. Not much of a time consumer.

Hi

I'm also in college and spend my days fixating about possible business opportunities, basically why I'm a member here and plan on being an entrepreneur in the near future.

Obviously depending on your college, and the workload that results, is a vital componant in making a decision as to whether to start a business. There are however business which are far less time consuming, and are easy to make a success of whilst in college, mainly due to the vast resources available to you.

I run a PR firm at college. It is mainly to boost my resume, and is non profit (due to the fact alot of our accounts are on campus and purely for portfolio purposes, charging would limit our creativity). However i do know people whom have starting web design companies whilst in college. Its something that i know i could venture into, but with no car and work visa, under the table payments is too risky that this stage in my career (not that i'm promotiong under the table at any stage in my career!). I have zero web design skills, but if i were to approach it, and maybe this is something you might want to think about doing, i would set it up as follows.

If have web design skills then simply make some example pages to show to possible clients, then simply go around to all the businesses in your area and sell them on the idea that every successful company has and needs a webpage and that you are the man to do it. I've known people to regurlarly get paid over a 1000 dollars per site.

This is another approach (the approach i would have to take seeing that i have zero web design skills)

Go to your computer science department, recruit some computer nerds (no offense to anyone reading this that might classify as one, im only jealous) and explain to them that if you work together , you can make some serious beer money whilst building a portfolio and improving your chances of getting a decent job after college.

You be the saleman, who promotes the companies services and your partner designs. You'll find alot of computer minded kids love to do it regardless, so the fact that they're making money is an added bonus.

All you need is samples, business cards, organization skills, a credit card account to pay the fees into, a business license (not expensive) and a computer.

Hope this maybe helps, as i've been writing this i'm thinking of just doing it myself, what the heck!

Take care, and good luck

Take advantage of your youth!

This is the best time to 1. start a business 2. invest your money.....you have very little responsibility at this stage ie. no kids, no mortgages. If your like me, your tuition is paid for, housing paid for, car paid for so all the money i make goes right into your pockets.

Also you don't have to start a blue chip company today. Start a small business and let it progress, your planting the seeds for your future.

I have a time consuming major and this coming year is gonna be really tough for me. I have to manage my time better and try to be more energetic so nothing is stopping me.

If your business falls through...you still got that degree (and vice versa) so don't let college stop you. Goodluck!

<<so all the money i make goes right into your pockets.>>

I don't have a problem with that. Where do you want to send it??? LOL j/k j/k j/k

Anyways, I don't have any kids (thank god), I don't have a mortgage. My tuition is paid for, but I have to pay for all of the other fees. My car isn't paid for, I still have a little less than 5 years to go (I just got it in March). And all of the money I make, goes into MY pockets or my savings account.

I have a retirement account and an investing portfolio. The only thing I don't have is a "business." If you read a previous post of mine, I did have a little venture selling a charity item for a small markup, but I believe that is starting to dry up. I do sell on Ebay every now and then, but I personally don't want to keep doing that. I'd rather do Ebay as a random business type of thing.

BUSINESSLIKE04:

I'm not very good with web designing, however, talking to the computer "nerds" is a very good idea. Back when I was in college over a year ago (got deployed overseas), I did have some computer science friends.

Now my question is, where does the domain name come from?
