Business Startup

I want to know generally how much it costs to build a professional style website, it is supposed to be ecommerce but I will be selling only around 20 products at most, also some services I will offer. I know how to build websites and all, I have acually made some with CSS, it turned out pretty good, but i want it to be professionally built, meaning neat, nicely done and to my specific specifications. Please give me a price range for this site, or any kind of information. I just want to know some general information. Also the biggest part is that I will have to have a ton of Search Engine Optimization done on the site. I have a decent marketing budget to start it off, and I know a few people who do SEO anyway. So please give me some ideas or whatever you can offer on getting this kind of website started up and built. I dont care where you are located. Anywhere is fine with me.

Hey armenh,

I can give you 3 ranges:

1. There will be people out there telling you that it can be done for under $1,000.

This can be great in price, but can also be very disastrous in quality and future expansions, poorly coded and mediocre designs.

2. Medium sized businesses will charge anywhere between $1,500 - $3,500.

If things are done correctly, it can work out great for you. You'll have a professionally designed website with great support.

3. Large sized firms can charge anywhere between $5,000 - $10,000+

This really depends on your needs. The only reason why you would want to pay for something as such would be if you're looking to have the entire package built in such as Search Engine Optimization and everything else. Most of the time, it is professionally done and the reason for the high cost is most likely derived from high overhead costs in running a larger firm.

If you have any questions, or if you would like to obtain a quote, let me know.

Cheers and good luck!

For e-commerce, try Joomla teamed up with Virtuemart. If you've built CSS websites before, this should be fairly straight forward. You can always set up the structure yourself and then get a professional to critique it and tweak it. It would be much cheaper that way, and you would also know what's going in the back-end so you can manage the items and news etc.

The ranges mentioned before are correct.
I think you need a medium sized one.
The costs would be around $ 2.000.

My other company Ten Ants could make it for you.
Some examples are this and this.
The first one was custommade. The second one was based on Joomla and Virtuemart (it is in dutch, so difficult to navigate).

you can get it done for $500 if you get it built offshore (someone in India). you just need to locate the right person, make sure they have sample websites they made that you can check out first.
