Business Question on what field to choose.

I currently have 3 businesses, I'm planning to close 2 or 1 in order to focus more on 1 of them since being a jack of all trades is not the way to go in business, I must master one.

Printing -> Tarpaulin, Acrylics and Paper Ads

Importation -> Car care products , making the least amount of money, but I really like importation since I love retail.

Car wash -> My importation affects this one because I import some of my own products.

All 3 are making money but the printing business is the breadwinner.
I'm in a third world country just so you can evaluate more.
Is it possible to run all 3 with mini managers? Or can I run 1 main business then sideline the other 2? Thanks.

If you can manage all 3, then I would suggest to keep it going parallel this way, until you gain more experience and situation unfolds. You would get to know which business you can rely upon if you forfiet the other two. Further you will get to know which business you are interested in, so making a choice will become easier for you.

shirtaholic: Great advice, I guess the 3 businesses are still young at 2 years old, I will see soon if I can keep them all. I already have management in printing and carwash but I feel that I will be the best when I run a single business field, am I wrong? I want to be the best on a specific field, not a multiple field guy.

Steve: Thanks on the distributor advice I'm looking for one now. I will try to compute the capacity, it is great to get advice from business people like you and "shirtaholic" for a change.

It depends on what your goals are. The richest people I know are the people that focus on one business and use other businesses as investments that they manage for a few hours per month or quarter.

My advice is to pick one (the one you have the most passion) and FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS. Focus on the one.

Now, you already have 3 businesses that are up and running.

What if you can make the import business make the most money? And how can you to create systems so that you don't have to work in the other two businesses any more (Or just a minimal amount of time)?

Well if you have one favorite stay with that one, find out if enjoyment or money is more important and pick your number one business that way. And then concerning the other two, see if you can sell one of them and decide on which one you can make more money selling and keep the other one.

    Hi tehjuicer,

I would try to keep all 3 going if you can. If they are all profitable and not demanding too much of your time then why not stick with all 3? Focus on the one you are most passionate about and hire employees to help out with the other areas of the businesses that you are not so fond of. You will only really need to stop if one business starts to really impact the profits of another.
