How complicated is your business? Some business professionals will argue that EVERY business should have a plan but I personally think it's for businesses that have a lot of money and growth potential at stake. Starting a little lawn service isn't going to need a business plan because the business model is very simple and easy to manage.

Ah, one of my favorite questions...
You can go go my site below for help with your business plan. I offer the book "You Can Write Your Own Successful Business Plan". It has simple step-by-step techniques that you can use to write your own business plan. It is geared towards the entrepreneur with no experience. (Ebook is just $9.99; hardcopy softcover also available.) (Sorry, no longer available through website. PM me if you are interested.)

And even for a small business you should write a business plan. Admittedly, there are some very small businesses that won't require a formal business plan (for example an ebay "business"). But for the most part you will want to research the competition, plan your marketing strategies, figure your sales plan, work on some financial reports.

And if you will require funding then there is no question, you will need to write that business plan. It's not nearly as difficult as it looks. It's entirely doable, especially with step by step direction.
