    Smile Business Law help

    So ive made my site
with a little help of Imeem.com, which is a music player mebeded to my page.
    Im guessing that is legal.

However there are few pictures Ive embded which found by Googling them.
They are on my site and I hope they dont cause any legal issues.

Also if the pictures are Cited, is that legal?

    the site is:

    w . w . w. seductionlounge . n . e. t

    Hey Mate,

Basically, copying images from google & inserting them onto your website may lead to legal complexities...Better to pay few pennies to some web designers & get paid stuff from them & be safe

Agree with Thomas here. Many businesses in the US (not sure where you are located) are constantly involved in some sort of legal action because people target them for anything and everything they can to make a quick buck. Don't give anyone any reason what so ever to come after you. Just pay a little money now to save a lot later. Especially if your site becomes profitable. Just my opinion.

If all you are doing is playing the music you are ok. If you are allowing people to download the music and a record company owns it, they can and will sue you. For the pictures, just go to the web site they originally came from and look at the bottom of the page. It should say something about the website and all enclosed material being copyrighted, if not you're probably in the clear. I am not lawyer though. I would play it safe and do what thomas5280 and bg09 suggested.

No, that's incorrect. But understandable, since intellectual property law is a very complex and rarely understood area.

When you purchase a song off the internet or CD, you've essentially purchased a license to use the intellectual property of another for personal use. Using it as part of a business, though rarely challenged, violates the rights that you've been afforded, if in fact you really do have the right to use them even personally.

Also, regardless of whether the copyright symbol and information appears, using an image that is owned by someone else is a violation of their rights. Again, rarely challenged, because it's so common, you could get into trouble using it.

    Hope this helps.

Well put! Just to reiterate, unless you own something or own the right to use it commercially, using it is illegal.

    Hi,

It is illegal to use images without permission, you don't have to pay for them, just ask the owner of them if its ok if you use them, and they usually ask you to give them some credit.

Also with trillions of images on the web, it's nearly impossible for someone to find their image on billions of websites. If it's a widely used image that millions have seen, you can be turned in, low chance tho. But if its something random or easy to recreate then there really isn't a problem.

But in short, to save legal troubles I wouldn't use them. Most people will just yell at you and tell you to remove it without taking action.

Additionally, you can generally get much higher quality images and sounds by paying a couple bucks, if the illegality isn't a strong enough reason.
