Business ideas requiring little to no initial investment

After looking a little I didn't see a thread covering this topic. I had recently spent some time looking at opportunities which require little to no initial monetary investment. It goes against the idea that you need money to make money, but it can and has been done successfully.

Here are a few that I like:

Website/blog: this is an obvious one, but with some knowledge of web design and a cheap web host initial investment and overhead cost can be extremely low.

Mobile automotive detailing: Another well known idea and this can pay off with the right marketing and reputation. Start up costs can be around $1000-$1500 (assuming the purchase of a vehicle is not needed) for supplies and go up from then depending on your advertisement costs.

Consulting: This is my favorite; Again the start up cost is relatively low depending on the specifics and what you already have to work with.

Pretty much anything on the web. Most of the stuff done on the web requires lots of time rather than lots of capital. Its only expensive if you hire employers or contractors

For sure, I alway have great idea's for new websites and it only costs me around 15-20$ for a domain name to actually see the idea come to life.

What are some other ideas anyonemay have?

That's assuming you have the ability to develop a website. It's much more expensive for those who don't have the knowledge.

You're right! A blog is a great way, however, it does take some time to get a blog up and running to where it makes a little money.

If you decide to do a blog, there are some WordPress themes available at ThemeForest.net for around $25-30 and they are great blog themes. I have several sites with themes from that site and it's been great! They come with easy instructions to install the theme.

Be careful with consulting unless you have had experience doing it before, or your knowledge of the subject is so concrete and at a high level that everyone would be a fool to talk to you.

Here come a couple personal questions. Please, don't be afraid to answer them because I can give you some great advice if the answers have been completed fully and honestly.

Do you happen to have any money saved up? Do you currently have a job? If so, where? What other experience do you have? How long and at what level? What hobbies do you have? Are you married and do you have kids (this one is important to know because of how flexible you can be as far as hours and travel)?

I've been in your shoes and it's easy to fall in the trap of, "I really want to start a business. It's in my blood, so I'm going to do it at all costs." I've been there and done that and have realized through a lot of unnecessary blood, sweat and tears that there's a better way...there's always a better way...and if I could have done anything differently, it would be that I would have started where I am now...in a field that interests me and that I love. I'm much happier this way.
