Questions:

Do you have any startup capital?

Do you have a mentor?

Do you have any friends or relatives who have been successful in business?

Do you want a learning experience or to get rich in as little time as possible?

How about selling general things on eBay? I did this when I first started selling. Things like video games or clothes might be a good one to go for.

I hope this helps.

Do you have any solid, marketable skills? Websites like rentacoder.com and guru.com let you sell services with little to no startup cash.

I have seriously considered ebay, but I am not very experienced and skeptical about how safe is it is. I'm a good website designer, should I sell that as a service on ebay. I do have capital to start with about $1000.

Even coordination is a great PT side gig in highschool. Book bands for parties, arrange long weekend getaways, as soon as you have a reputation you'll own the market. For what it lacks in pay it more than makes up for in good times.

Lawn care. Borrow your moms gardening tools and walk the neighbourhood. You can usually get at least $10 a house and it shouldn't take you any longer than 20min to finish. That's at least $30/hour going solo. Once you've built a list and a reputation expand and let your friends in @ $15-20/hour as their using your equipment and tools. Find a friend w/ a truck for the big green.

For more ideas we'll need to know more about your skills. Good luck.

I had a friend who worked pro bono for a few months on local school, church, and other associations' websites. He quickly leveraged that experience into paying work, not to mention the excellent word of mouth that went out with the satisfied and grateful customers.
