    BUCK-THE-WORLD.com

    bucktheworld.com (also .net,and .org)

I just registered this site, and think the name is not only unique (I'm actually surprised it wasn't already taken), but also has potential as a popular niche online community for people to vent their anger, sadness, and frustrations, but also a place to seek help, and advice from others who are also dealing with tough situations in their life. Due to the purpose, and intention of the site, there would be very few rules of what users would be allowed to say, and post on the site. Only those that are 18+ would be allowed to join.

I think many would appreciate a place where they can let it all out, no-holds-barred. I think most people would not post on sites like facebook, myspace and other "family oriented" social networks for several obvious reasons:

    1. They wouldn't want family, friends, or business associates to know, and read their true feelings, some of which might be about those very people.
    2. Venting out your anger on the internet might be viewed as immature and childish to some.
    3. Facebook, and others would not allow such material to be posted, and made public to their "young" members.

Advantages bucktheworld.com would have being a niche "Social Network":

    1. Users names would be an alias and not their real name....if they choose.
    2. It might help users cope with stress, depression, and other harmfull emotions, by telling others when the people around them don't listen.
    3. Because only people 18+ would be allowed to join, there would be a feeling of being able to talk about serious things, without stupid/ annoying post from "youths".

This would be a community that focuses on the darker side life...the side that most look down upon, and shun, but could proove to be a very much needed thing to offer balance in ones life.

    Questions...comments welcome.

The only issues you might run into with a site like this would be libel problems and abusive spammers. I could definitely see libel being a problem with scorned employees writing terrible reviews of their bosses and using their real name, scorned ex-girlfriends/boyfriends doing the same, etc... Even though court case after court case tend to side with the website over who should be liable for what is written in a community, the legal costs associated with defending your site might might make it more of a risk than it's worth. Also, any site where the attitude is generally negative and angry is going to bring some of the more abusive spammers out.

Yes, in that case, there would be a "Use this site at your own risk" disclosure before they become members. As far as mentioning their bosses name, I'm sure people already do this on myspace and facebook on their wall, and status bar, and so forth. Secondly, if the member wasn't using their own name, then the boss would have a very hard time proving it was a certain employee that wrote the bad review.

I agree on this risk. Even if you've got a good intention to offer to online users, most of those "no-holds barred" networks that tend to allow discussions like this may or may not be having facts to brag about their bosses, salaries, family members, etc and other sensitive issues. On the other hand, you can also be bombarded of such traffic and links but spam can highly populate and this is just to warn you out.

When I say SPAM I mean two different things. 1. Since the sentiment of community is one of unverified claims, anger, and frustration you will probably get many users who post things like the word "fuck" 1000 times in a thread over and over again. 2. Since the community will be lightly moderated, that's inviting all kinds of spammers to canvas your forum.

Seth, yes I mostly agree. The site is intended to for users...for lack of a better word..to "spam" as long as it is....meaningful, and constructive.....if that makes any sense. Some might view it as spam though. I'll need to think up some rules that clearly seperate a spam post, from one that is legit. Some thoughts off the top of my head to limit spammers ,and the amount of spam on the site could be to:

    1. Limit the number of post per hour any member can submit

    2. Require that all post have a certain number of words so that someone, as you said can't just post "f--k" a 1000 times

    3. Allow other members to vote-ban members (and their IP address so they cant re-join) that are deemed guilty of spamming. This type of self-regulation could help limit to load on me, and the moderators. We could also temporarily suspended spammers as a warning.

    ---

On the flip side I understand that someone who is upset, might have the desire to "spam" a site, however what about people that are overly enthusiastic? I know people on facebook who update their status every hour for the most pointless, and stupid things...does facebook consider this spam? Eventhough their status updates are not subjected to ALL facebook members, it IS subjected to all their friends. It doesn't really bother me, but its hard, if not impossible to really draw the line between the two.

hey guy, idea sounds all nice and good, but you would never be able to have 100% anonymous. I've spoken to a lawyer about an idea like this before and they stated there will always be possible legal issues even if u say that the user assumes risk. It still can be considered negligence in some instances. Interesting idea, but I think there are enough places to badmouth the world around us... how about some positive things...

It is a good idea but one that is already in the webosphere, you will be tackling spam 24/7 and it you want it to work you need to market in a way which will enthuse people to turn their attention to you rather than the already established social media centers

What social media centers are there, that are similar to this?. Also in the response of people saying this is a legal issue, I agree, and to help prevent this, I'd make members "sign" a Non-disclosure agreement that would prevent them from posting personal information that would link them directly to who they are.. so for example members would not be allowed to post their last name, drivers license #, social sec #, phone number, address or anything else that is a direct link to their identity, not that anyone with any common sense would post some of those things anyway.

Members would also have to sign a waiver that would prevent them from pursuing legal action on the content other members wish to post. So for example if a boss of a company became a member and if he found out that one of his workers said that he was a "Douche bag", he would not be allowed to sue. I could also host the website in a foreign country to prevent it from being shut down.

    thanks.

I think you've got yourself a great idea and a great name to match.

When I think about all of the sites that have been around for some time that allow you to "rate your boss" or "rate your professor" or "rate XXXXX" it makes me think that libel is not quite as big an issue as some people would think.

How many great (popular/profitable) sites would have never been created if their owners would have legally picked them apart piece by piece before they created them?

He needs a feeling and a belief that he has some worthwhile thing to do. What this is no one can tell him. It must be his own creation. Its success will be measured by the nature of his vision, what he has done to equip himself, and how well he has performed along the line of its development."
