    Branding Help

I'm in the editing stages of my book and I will be selling it in print/ebook format. I'm going to develop a blog/site that features blog entries, opinion articles, news and stats about my topic. I'm going to use this blog/site as an endorsement/marketing tool for the book.

The book is going to be called "Reclaiming the Crown." The site is going to be called "The Auto Racing Wall."

My question is, should I include a universal brand so my readers can recognize a connection between the book/site? Companies like Virgin have done this and they have experienced a marketing benefit. I also may want to do this so my customers could recognize my future ventures with the same brand name.

My personal opinion is that this always works best. Though I don't take my own advice, it is much easier managing one distinct brand. Just boiling it down to marketing costs, look at the extra expense that marketing multiple brands entails? My advice would be to go with a universal brand.

    Thank you for the help.

My problem is that I'm selling a book that can't really have a brand name as the title. Whereas the title of the web site/blog could be a universal brand name.

I may look into branding my own name. So the book becomes: "DJ Samson's Reclaiming the Crown" and the site becomes "DJ Samson's Racing Wall." Or perhaps something more along the lines of how Donald Trump brands his businesses, like "Samson Racing Wall" for the site.

^^ That would work, too. After all, look at the power of the Trump name.

Branding doesnt always have to be just in words. You can use fonts text and symbols ect. Write the word Pepsi in coke font and you instantly reconise it as coke. Write yahoo in google font and colours ect. So you could have your title on your book in the same font as what your web page has or have a little symbol that sits next to words.

Sorry i took it off actually having a brand but i tohught i would throw this out there.

    Good luck with it.

This is true. Your Brand is much more than title, name, etc. It is a promise of value and an image. In other words, you could be recognized as something and regardless of what you put out next, people will pay attention because they are in fact buying you the individual. People choose Coke over Pepsi or vice versa based on experience with the product. Same with you.

So I could make a "DJ" Symbol using word or Photoshop and just stamp it into the title of each site/book/company I have?

    Thanks,

    DJ

Branding means consistency with quality products.

It takes a long time for others to recognize you as a brand. All the Nike, Trump brands doesn't take a two, three years to build.

Have the patience to build your brand, and be consistent with all you marketing collateral.

    Hi,
Since you are an author I would suggest going with your first instinct and branding your name. It will automatically appear on all your books and readers are already used to talking about specific authors. You could also create a logo that you could use on the spine of your books like a publisher does. Like others said it is all about consistency and patience.
I think focusing on your name will be much more efficient and effective than creating a new brand. Who is the publisher for Stephen King, or Danielle Steele, etc, etc. People are more apt to remember the author.

See Inc. Magazine from 2 months ago. The feature is a case study on Dave's Insanity Sauce and examines the exact question you are asking.
