Hello again everyone. So i was watching TV and some movie trailer came on about bookies, i dont know the name. but anywayz. I thought to my self it could work. there are alot of college students who would proly do it. it's not the most legal thing in the world but it's another way to make some money. the college market is filled with a bunch of illegal operations, like keg partys. what do you guys think? I might just try to do it.. ha!

Being a bookie can get tricky its really a numbers game, if you have alot of different betters you break on top pretty much all the time because of the 10% juice. If you were to do it you would have o cap the bets at like 500 max on a bet maybe even 300 because if the student got to in dept they would get scared and go tell. Also you have to worry about getting the money becuase who's to say someone wont just pay you and since its illegal you can't take legal actions also you run a chance of getting robbed if people figure out your the bookie making the money. Bookies were created through organized crimes along with being loan sharks, to be honest if your not really the crimnal type being a bookie my not play out, because people will pay you but it only takes one person to not pay and everyone finds out then when they get down lot they wont pay either becuase they know your not going to do anything about it. Watch the movie Bookies if you want to get a pretty good idea of a bookie. I know some bookies personally and sometimes you can have a horrible week and loose alot of money but it does play out eveytime because as a business you really never loose along as your taking enough bets from different people the loosers pay the winners you get the juice and whatever's left over.

I did this at school.
I went on to stan james .com and copied the oddes. The then changed them slightly and took the bets. If i thought there was a chance of the bet winning id cover it- if it won id make profit.
if i didnt think the bet would win i wouldnt cover it - keeping the money for myslef.
I found it pretty profitable...

I knew a campus bookie when I was in school, he made an absolute killing. He probably took bets from about half the people that were making them out of an 18k student population, so lots of money for what it was.
Trouble is getting people to pay you what they owe you. He was a big, intimidating guy who carried a firearm, and he employed other big, intimidating guys who carried firearms. If you aren't one, and don't want to know any people like this, this is not the business for you.
Consequentially, if you are, it can be a fantastic business.

I don't think something like that is worth the risk while you're in college. If you want to be a bookie in a college town, wait till you graduate. If the college found out, you would get reemed so hard and expelled in a second.

Being a bookie does not make you personally a gamler, nor does it make you a loan shark or a numbers runner. Bookies take bets, that's it. They don't usually collect or distribute money.
Here's the thing - yes you can make money, but at what price? One time you get somebody who make s a stupid bet and happens to win, you don't have the money to pay them, now you're screwed.
Like dealing drugs, all illegal operations have too much risk. The best weed dealer you ever met or knew and the best bookies you'll ever meet all share one trait - that is that they are all just good businesspeople. If they manage to stay in business without getting hurt, killed or arrested. Unfortunately, even being a good businessman in this situation does not improve your odds at not having something bad happen to you.
If it's something you would have been good at anyway, then you would be just as good at another legal business in a similar area, so I suggest you look down that avenue.
gamblers and bettors are not always the most moral people, neither are the cellmates you'd have in jail.
