We just had our annual work retreat to discuss future business goals and review last year's finances, goals, and progress made. During this meeting we discussed the possibility of having a Board of Advisors, which turned out to be a good idea.
Our plan is to do an advisor swap where you would attend our annual meeting and we would attend yours to offer outsider opinions.
A little about my/our (multiple partners) company:
Desert Star Systems LLC was founded in the early 90s by a single individual and then converted into a partnership in 2000. Shares were redistributed in 2009 and the majority of the company is owned by people in their 20s.
Desert Star's primary markets are in underwater defense, science, and exploration.
What we can offer:
While we cannot offer a cash incentive, we will invite you to our annual meeting which is generally held in nice locations. For example, at the last meeting we rented out a cabin in Lake Tahoe for the week (Mon-Sun). The company provided the cabin and all food/drinks at no cost but individual 'stuff' was paid out of pocket by those who attended (skiing, snowboarding, etc).
The 2011 meeting will be from March 28th through April 3rd. Location will be decided around June 1st, and as an advisor you can propose the location.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for someone outside of our company who can provide us with an outside interpretation of what we are doing right, wrong, or can improve. This person should have some experience owning and/or managing their own established company. They should understand the make-up of Desert Star and the direction that the company is going in. Ideally, they will even know a little bit about the market in which Desert Star is focused in. They would proactively inquire what is the 'latest' news at Desert Star.
We will offer the same in return...
