I will share this with you. Blogger is really effective regardless of what you have heard before. Why? Simple. Who owns Blogger? Google! Who has the leading search engine? Google!
Check out the long tail keywords:
selling unsold homes
marketing unsold homes
I sit at the top 2 spots of the FIRST page of Google for those phrases!
I rest my case.

I moved off of blogger about a week ago. I just couldn't customize my site the way I wanted. I don't think having a blog on blogger will increase your traffic. My traffic has went up 75% since I moved to my own domain. That's not saying much... because it wasn't high to begin with. But it has gone up with very little promotion. Good luck with your blog!.

Opt for Wordpress instead of blogger. You don't own the site when it's hosted with blogger, and you'll find a lot more goodies with wordpress. Also, when your site is hosted on it's own domain name people will take you more seriously.
I make more than 1k a month but it's with a handful of sites.
The formula is very simple.
Content + Backlinks = Traffic = Revenue
You can keep your blog super simple and still make it a success.
Good luck.

Does this formula work with ANY type of site? It seems like it would, just looking for you take on it.
Can you define the term "backlinks"? I'm not familiar with that one. Thanks!

That is just my personal opinion. That said, there are several ways you can go about monetizing your blog but there are also better ways to make money out there. Personally to me, I think blog income should be a side thing and not something you should focus heavily on if you're really into making money. Traffic for your blog is usually a gradually growth and for this very same reason, it's not something you can rush into making tons of money with.

Yes. Backlinks are links from other websites.
Shaggy, I know an affiliate marketer who makes $30k a month, and there's many that clear over a million a year.

Shaggy, can you suggest any other ways to make money online outside of affiliate marketing, survey sites, or monetizing a blog?

Do you think that having a niche blog would override the need to have a domain? I am going to be traveling abroad and wanted to start an advice blog about living and working in the UK as an American citizen. I haven't decided whether to get my own domain or not, but I wondered if, since it's such targeted information, and actually in journal form, if it would still be worthwhile just to use blogger.
Also, I figure I'm going to be busy enough beyond dealing with another website, lol.

The benefits of having your own domain far outweigh the paltry cost.
