Blog - business or not?

What's your general view? Setting up a blog, getting AdSense money, is that considered a busienss? I just set one up http:\\world-soccer-news.blogspot.com, and I just don't know if I should bother with bus. plan etc..

Anyway, what's the story with AdSense? I've got it on the blog, but it just displays ads for hurricane relief? Hardly going to make me money..

Anybody knows how to get that changed, and maybe move a blog from Blogspot, is that possible?

Best regards

no, don't bother.

a business is a sustainable organisation that's better at satisfying paying customer needs than other organisations. you:

not sustainable - world cup will be over soon
not organisation - not in a position to recruit
not better - you can't do a better job at world cup coverage than worldcup.com
no customer needs - the need for information is not quantifiable
no revenues - product not valuable enough for people to pay for it

anything other that is either an experiment or folly. some people people can afford to engage in that kind of conduct, you're not one of them.

the public service ads are displayed because google isn't reading your content. i've got no idea why that's happening. it can be a bunch of things.

there's a option you can pursue to turn what you're doing into a real business. want me to send you an illustration?

Sure mate,

If you can send it to andreas@speedingcover.com

The focus will be more on Serie A and the English Premiership, but you're absolutely right. Competing with the big guys thru a blog would be ridiculous.

But please send it to me, thanks.

Andreas

With the ads for public service hurricane relief, if you've just registered it takes time for Google to index your pages and find relevant ads to match your content. Just wait a few hours.
In terms of revenue, unless you blog day in day out, you're only likely to make spare change, which isn't that much use, as you can only get the money you've made once you reach the $100 barrier. That's the annoying part.
You can move a blog from Blogspot, Im in the middle of doing that now. You will need your own domain and hosting and you can use Wordpress blogging platform (its much more versatile than Blogger).
Email or PM if you need more info.

You can make money with a blog, but I wouldnt call it a business and make a business plan for it.
But, use a blog together with your business, write about your company and so on and it brings alot of value to your company.

A great post on this subject:

http://onstartups.com/Home/tabid/333...ChaiLatte.aspx

Basically you need to a) capture an audience with meaningful content and then b) provide them with advertising relevant to said content in order to be able to capitalize on your readership.

For example, this can work well with product review blogs (links to products from retailers).
