With their PPC system that they started in 2001, they use a system of targeted ads where your website is shown to people searching for websites on google relevant to your website. PPC does have shortcomings though with the first one being its price. Since you choose the amount you are ready to spend you will soon notice that you may need $1000 for a hundred hits a day. Facebook ads
With Facebook having 500 million users it is a clear huge platform for advertising. Facebook ads is similarly put like google ads as it is PPC and use the targeted system where you choose to whom you want your ad to be address to. Facebook though has more functionality like you can target to a specific school or to your friends or a specific city. You can also promote events. However like Google ads, the prices easily get out of the range soon.

The Business Poster is a new website launched that uses a new form of advertising on the internet. It works with various slideshows oscillating continuously. The uploader uploads a banner onto the website to the relevant category and chooses the frequency at which he would like it to appear per day such as every ten minutes. The banner is then uploaded with a link to their website and then oscillates continuously over the same frequency till the ad expires. This is a really new and cool system because it makes advertising seem cool and it is more interesting to look at in the eyes of the visitors. Also it supports online to offline advertising as you can upload a banner with no link to it but you place your information and your contacts on the banner that allows people to easily see your product.

Apparently was dead after the million dollar homepage but it has since been going back on a rise. You buy pixels and place an image on it which people can see. Its quite simple and has a limited life span.

Classified websites
You can advertise on classified websites for free and get some traffic. The only problem is that you may get flagged, or if your advertising on huge popular websites like craiglist, your ad me be short lived as 100s of ads are posted in the same category every second. If the website is not popular you may never get hits.
