Becoming an investor - Canadian Securities Course

Hello all!

I am currently looking at doing the Canadian Securities Course through the Canadian Securities Institute. Could anyone give me any advice from past experience as to how they liked or disliked it and why.

I am going to meet with a number of professional investors, money managers and other various financial types over the coming while... what questions should i ask besides...

1) Is the Canadian Securities course a good place to start?
2) Can i have a loan?
3) How did you get started?

Anyone with some advice please chime in! Also does Australia have any recognized programs like this? ThanX

What is your goal? If you want to be able to sell and trade products (mutual funds, RRSP's etc) you will need the licence.

I have my securities licence, and I think that if you want to take the course that is great. I never took the course so I can't comment on it. I received my licence because I needed it for a specific project so I just studied and took the test. My licence is product specific so I am limited to what I am allowed to do.

I don't know what else to tell you since I don't know what your objective is.

Hello Karen,

I am looking to trade securities, create investments for people in various sectors and topics of that nature.

I must ask how was the exam you took?

Dont you have to be sponsered to take the test in canada?

Here in the US we have to be sponsered by a brokerage, firm, etc. before we can even take the tests.

Cant just take it whenever you want and for whatver reason.

Yes, that is the same as here in Canada.

If you reread my post, I commented that I needed the licence for a specific project and that the licence was product specific. The people who I was working with sponsored the licence.

Outta Hand,

The test I took was really easy, and only took about 10 minutes. But again, I was being licenced for a specific reason (I know I have already said this ) so my test was directed toward the product.

I do know that the full test wouldn't be too difficult, if one studied and knew their stuff.

Talking

All i know is when i had to study for it i was given a book that was like 4 inches thick

Luckily not to long after that they stopped making pro traders having to be liscenced.

I do kind of regret not taking the test because it would of been good for my future possibly, but then again a company isnt going to soley hire you on the basis that you are allready liscenced, they wll just make you take it i guess.
