So, say I was planning on opening a real small bar, and was only going to sell 6 - 8 speciality beers, like Guiness, Yauank, Harp, etc...How do I go about getting the beers at wholesale price?

I think if you don't know that, you shouldn't be in [this] business.

This is what you do - ring the beer companies and ask.

You buy the beer in a keg (massive container of beer) and ring the manufacturers of the beer companies and ask them for keg prices or they may be sold by their distributors so ask for a list of their phone numbers from the manufacturer.

Are you talking about from the brewers standpoint or from a bar owners standpoint?

Being a bartender I can tell you that if we sell 1 draft beer at $3 we are making appx $2.90.

If we sell that same beer in bottle at $3, we are making appx $2.00

Well, I've hit a major road block!!! I can't find anywhere decent to rent to establish my bar. Plenty of options to purchase a retail place, but I don't have $600,000+ dollars to do that!

Are we talking gross margin here or true profit? It could be maybe only 15-20%.

um gross profit depends on location and type of venue..in ny there are bars that charge $7 a beer..then there are places in other areas that charge $2.50 a beer..of course rent is much more expensive in nyc so the need to charge alot
