Are Young Treps Nurtured or Born?

We already know entrepreneurship tends to run in the family. Perhaps the thrill of starting up and running a company washes off on Junior. Or kids help out running the business from time to time and think they can do it too. But the question remains: Are young entrepreneurs nurtured or born?

Check out this recent post on the topic: Are Young Treps Nurtured or Born?

Both Nurtured and Born. You are born with certain genes that make you a good Trep but the work ethic and skills need to be taught in order for that Trep to become confident enough to dive in. While working in a family run business you see aspects of the business that you wouldn't get from a typical job.

I'd say both. My mom and dad want NOTHING to do with entrepreneurship, but taught me a solid work ethic which is necessary for owning a business successfully. I've wanted to be on my own since I was young and just took the step about a month ago to leave my job and take my part-time business full time.

I think it really hit me in college when I was making $7/hour at my job (not bad for 10 years ago), yet made $45/hour after posting a flyer to tutor college kids in finance. Great topic.

    Cheers!

entrepreneur is a quality that can be a gifted by birth and can be grasped by learning. It all matters that how good you are at managing things and tacking the situation in-front of you.

It's both. When I was a kid I got into a lot of trouble and counselors categorized me as "High-Risk". It's not that I was a bad kid, I just didn't think of the consequences. Those same qualities that made me "shoot first then aim" became assets for my startups.

My cousin, who is like a younger brother to me, has been following in my footsteps. He's already got his first app done, and it's a result of a nurturing relationship between the two of us.

Good question, and answer is almost certainly both, but depends what they mean by "born". Genetics? If so, then that probably has very little to do with motivation and drive (compared to work / learning, etc).

Have you ever noticed that our young girls seem to be far ahead of our young boys ... Researchers are finding that there are two traps in particular that are ..... are thinning on the ground... women want the jobs of nurturing & to the ..... days and just go on doing what I've been doing since my kids were born.

Both born and nurtured. One is born with internal talents, but has to develop them through learning and practicing.

Everyone has within them the ability to some degree.
Although so many never dig deep enough within themselves
to find it... Based on their life experiences and their
interpretation of those experiences, is whether and/or how
they find the Entrepreneur within them.

In my case, my environment nurtured me in to becoming the epitome of an entrepreneurial spirit.

Neither of my parents have the spirit, and none of my relatives do either. They are all typical middle-class, hard working people who have no interest in starting their own business. However, the way I was raised has directly lead me to becoming an entrepreneur. When I was growing up, I was sent to a private school, and so all of my friends had the coolest toys around. Unfortunately, as a middle class family, my parents could only buy me things once and a while. 99% of the time they told me that if I wanted something, I had to work for it. This is what began my desire for money. I started doing anything I could to make a quick buck. I wasn't necessarily a salesman or anything; I would just try to do different things such as a lawn care service or inventing a new skateboard. As I have grown older, that desire has increased 10 fold, and I am constantly working on something to make me more money.

Now I am a senior in high school, and I am in the process of forming my first web development company. I am really excited, and it really shows my entrepreneurial spirit. So in my case, it was nurture, not nature.

Good genes contribute but they really need nourishment.

Treps aren't born they are nurtured.

Having parents who are business minded is a good training but kids need to decide for themselves if this is something they need to do.
