Just curious what kind of business ideas people are working on. Alot of it seems web based. Just trying to gain some insight into YE's mindset...

A lot of YE do internet related ventures because the barriers to entry are so low, compared to brick and mortar ventures. Most of us are working with pretty limited resources and the internet is the perfect answer to that.

The internet is a valuable resource, but not all of us are dedicated strictly to his aspect of business.

I'm from NH building a business hosting automotive events to promote the construction of a new motorsports park. My goal is to build a new location within the next 5-10 years. Starting small, and using all of the resources I can including the internet to gain support, and get the message out.

I have read a few posts on here of people designing and bringing new products to market, and much more. If your looking for people in a similar industry to yours I'm sure you can find them on here.

Exactly why my latest venture will be a website Its likely to cost me less than £50 to get up and running (spent £14 on it to date).

100% agree with this topic, i look around and see nothing but web base things. we should be talking about straight business not what you can do online? share ideas? something like that right?

Slightly wrong topic, but I'll answer anyways.

YE heavily favor Internet Ventures because of the low start-up cost and because of the anonymity. I'm 20 years old, but two years ago I was (and still am) operating a couple different marketplace websites and the anonymity barrier gave a boost of confidence knowing that my customers didn't know that I was only 18.

The internet has become so pervasive that all entrepreneurs, young and older, have to incorporate some web marketing to grow their business. Yes, there are a tonne of fully Internet-based businesses, I think any traditional bricks and mortar company is wise to establish a strong online presence.

I am involved in a telecom reselling business and my team is focusing very heavily on attraction web marketing to promote our services/products as well as grow our team. This is the only way to stay relevant in the 21st century. Best in '09 and beyond!

While I agree that YE seems to focus primarily on Internet based business, I myself own a small property maintenance company that generates decent income. I would like to see more brick and mortar business discussions on YE.

The low start ups costs and anonymity are exactly what 16 year old entrepreneurs (such as me) need to get us started

Low barriers to entry, easy construction, and no high start up costs. I would personally like to see some big business discussions on here, such as "I want to start a steel co." or set up enterprises in Africa.

I would say that given today's market the young entrepreneur cannot help but use such a powerful resource for all it is worth. I guess depending on the nature of his ventures and where they are going to come to fruition for him. Though the web is super powerful, in some regards it is also limited. There are so many factors involved that each entrepreneur, in my opinion, is faced with and it's up to his entrepreneurial spirit to make it work. At that point, I would have to say that it can go either way.

In my own personal situation, the web has the potential to be one of my most important assets, however, some of the most serious ground is being covered in the network of relationships of people in the right places.
