    Are You Linked-In?

I just joined YE yesterday, and I believe this site can afford many networking opportunites for everyone. With that in mind, I am posting a general question to all:

Are you on the business networking site Linkedin?

If so, let me know. The more contacts you have the more networking, marketing, and even employment search you can do on the site. Thanks.

Yes, I'm part of LinkedIn... my profile is in my signature. If anyone else is a member add me to your network.

What's the point of adding someone w/o having personally worked with them though? I've seen profiles with 500+ connections and I can easily tell if someone is a social network whore. Even though it's a social network, I still believe in quality over quantity.

True. The goal isn't to get as many people as possible. The point here ( at least in my case) is to get some contacts. I haven't been able to find anyone I know on there yet. Quality over quantity is always the point, you're right. I figured, also, that connecting with people of similar goals, like young entrepreneurs, can bring about some eventual business connections for all of us.

I'm on linked-in, and 95% of the people in my network are those I have worked with. There are only a couple that slipped in there because of similar interests. I haven't found much use for the site as far as increasing business, but it's interesting to read the background on people I already know professionally.

Interesting. I just found out about the site a few days ago reading an article. It was kind of vauge, so I went there and joined to see for myself. Well, I know keeping current with past and present clients can mean consistent repeat business, but in my case there are no clients on the site past or present. So, what could I gain from being there? Any words of wisdom from anyone? Thanks

Without knowing what you do, it's hard for me to make suggestions. However, I've found the network useful when I need to call up favors from ex-coworkers or friends that are in similar industries.

You can always invite some of your friends or past clients to sign up on the network and give you recommendations on the site. You never know... it could just bring you more work unexpectedly down the road.

    Veikoh,
What are the advantages to using Linkedin when you're in a sort of "obscure" profession such as mine? Is Linkedin even a resource for someone like me or would my time be better spent on some other venue? Just wondering.

I have linkedIn, but never actually got anything beneficial from it. I just have some former collegues and classmates on my list, but how do you actually discover new contacts?
