I am a web designer and looking at your portfolio, if I needed a site, I would not come to you -

Few links are broken and it is just boring

I did say it was still under construction, and please direct your negativity elsewhere. Thank you!

I find that there is a lot of negativity on this site.

There is a big difference between straight shooting and unnecessary criticism.

I don't think there's anything wrong with negativity and unnecessary criticism. After all, most people who use this site, judging by the numerous 'bigger penis' posts, got to where they are today (if that place is successful) by being neurotic workaholics (or maybe that's just me).

When I was 15 I posted a few of my first web site designs on a very trendy forum - stylegala. It was bad, I felt like shit for a week, but I was so pissed off that I was driven to become better. I got better.

I wish I had someone there to tell me I was doing a shitty job when I was spending thousands of dollars satisfying my need to out consume my peers. I wish there was someone there who could have pointed out other mistakes I've made with my business/finances.

Like they say, no pain no gain. If what someone says about you, your business, etc., doesn't genuinely offend you, you aren't going to change. People rarely change to facilitate better, they change to rectify bad.

That being said, I'm a big fan of (constructive) criticism, and sometimes, whether you know it or not, being a dick IS better than keeping your mouth shut.

Yeah that is a nice site, S4D. I'd hit that. If websites could be "hit."

Yeah I totally get that my site isn't the best it can be, I'm totally still learning since its my every first site. I'm just trying to earn some college money really. I am not afraid of criticism - as long as you give me some suggestions or point out specific things that you don't like. So please don't just bash it out of boredom.

Ok here is some PRECISE criticism

    - Check your page in IE. Your footer hangs down about 5px below where it should, and it looks unprofessional.

    - Lose the free domain name. If you want to be taken seriously, you need to be at a .COM address. No .tk, .net, or anything else. .com.

    - Get a professional email address (with your domain name). Free mail accounts don't cut it if you're a web designer.

    - the work in the portfolio looks good, but the portfolio itself is not. Try using Flash, or at least let the first image in the portfolio be shown. All the blank space makes it look - blank.

    - Check your captions on your images

    - You have 3 dead links - fix this

    - Try grouping your portfolio together since you don't have a lot in it...this will give you a bit of leeway

Good luck! Like I said, the actual art work (the graphic design, album covers, etc.) looks good, you just need to work on the professionalism. Even if you have to deliver papers to get the money for hosting, business cards, etc., you need to do it.

Taking the time and spending the money to get the things professionals have and know is going to make you a professional faster than anything else will, so work on your fundamentals!

    Thanks,
    Calvin

Wow, thanks so much. That actually really helps me. I'm really not a web designer (obviously) so I'm really struggling. I'm better with the artsy stuff. People like you make me wanna be better, make the site better. Thanks again. I'm sure your hard work has rewarded you well.

    Thanks again,
