Are there any laws or regulations regarding making claims of being official

Can anyone create a website using the word official in there name?

    For example:

    officialtravelguide.com

    officialonlinepokerguide.com

I want to make a website which is an index guide using the word official claiming it is the official xyz guide. Is there any regulations or laws against this?

I think you're fine as long as you aren't claiming to be another company's 'official' page.

Yea like Luke said. You can't have a website that is the official coca-cola page. But if you say you are the official guide of something, I don't see why not. Websites can be shut down due to violating laws (fulltilt) or impersonating someone that I know of. Obviously claiming to be the official is only a good idea if you can back it up with testimonials or claims from customers who used your service.
