Anyone who had outsourcing experience?

Hi again, I heard there are many US based companies now hiring Filipinos and Indians as their programmers, webmasters, link builders etc to maintain and up the PR of their business/sites.
Do you think its worth the pay, labor cost will be cheaper right?

How much can one save? about 50 % of his/her labor expenses?

The difference in pricing between India and the US is decreasing due to the increasing Indian labour costs and the decreasing US ones. Supply and demand playing out its magic.

The main problem I have come across, and indeed, the same problem as many of my friends and associates in dealing with India/Pakistan for software, programming, etc is the language barriers. The sales person normally speaks good English, but when the project is translated into Urdu, or any other language/dialect, it loses something and we all (with no exception) have ended up spending months on end traying to rectify their mistakes, which they then contend that are not their fault.

In my experience, the hassle is NOT worth the increasingly small difference in price. However, we have found Eastern Europeans to deliver high quality at amazing prices, and without the language barriers.

Hope this helps

Sam

You should opt for testing their capability to measure their etiquette, responsiveness, expertise and their level of competence before you choose a provider either in India or US/Europe, price should be not just a priority. Also cross-cultural understanding with cultural specific skills is important to this venture once you start looking for your outsourcing partner especially to other countries.

I would strongly suggest to only deal with companies that have a rep here in the US that you can physically talk to and explain your ideas. I wasted hundreds because it is impractical to develop something just by IM with a person half way around the world. I'm not saying this company was bad or outsourcing is bad, it's just that as what people said above there are some major dissadvantages that aren't seen outright.

The Phillippines has many fluent English speakers and that was an example cited by Vishenda

So far, 100% of any money paid to others in my business has been outsourced work. I have currently outsourced to Canada, USA (coding) and Thailand (product). I was going to outsource to India but in the end I just couldn't get a good enough line on what they were about.

Thanks, I have cited Filipinos since my friends who are into internet marketing have Filipino programmers and webmasters. They said Filipinos are easy to dig instructions and smart too. I am not sure though which is better: via agency or direct freelancing..?

thanks for the input

I recently outsourced some mod rewriting to a slovenian, they had perfect english so no problems at all.

It didn't cost that much for the work that was done and Im very pleased with the way its gone. So if its a simple straight forward job then I would defninitely recommend outsourcing abroad.

But then if its a complex bit of work then I guess its best to have the work done by someone you can call!
