    HI Shaun

I have been working on a similar concept for the past 14 months and have just secured investors.

Of course you can run a competition like many other people, you will probably find your up against stiff competition if you just operate another SMS competition, there are so many doing it now. Research your area and check the Law and think about how you can make yours stand out against the other competitions. (USA is one country I didn't research)

Don't you have something similar to a gamblers commission in the US, for example in the UK you would have to ask them for permission for anything to do with gaming, However with SMS because it's includes a question: which has to be answered it is not classed as gambling in this case SMS competition are regulated by "Ofcom" + " ICSTIS".

There are many scams with premium services and ICSTIS are there to protect the consumer to make sure that you do what you advertise to do and give what you promise, I can't see it being that different in the US on the other hand they did manage to ban everybody from playing online poker so anything is possible.

Give this company a call www.StealthNET.Net they also operate in the US and will be able to tell you what you would need for this Country

I mean, is it as easy as renting a bill-board and advertising the text to win campaign on it?

Again it really depends on the Country and how big you want the competition to be. I would really like to give you more accurate information, I could talk to you for hours on this subject but I can't give you the information on the US as I have not concentrated on this Country for my business and don’t want to give you any inaccurate information
