Depends where you are. In the UK there is the Companies House Website, I suppose there is something like that in the USA & other countries. Other than that, try the yellow pages (or another telephone directory).

Theres ones for both states and countries. I live in Illinois, so I had to search through my secratary of state's website to see if my business was available....
www.cyberdriveillinois.com is the one for IL.
