Any Creative ideas on what to do with your competitionīs domain name?

    Hi!

I am sure this triggers the meanness in some of you, but what about some creativity ?!

Suppose you have bought the domain name of your competitorīs brand, what do you guys think would be the best way to use it?

You have to be careful here. If you buy the domain of a competitors brand and their name is trademarked you may not be able to use it for anything. Now that changes if you changed the spelling to try to take advantage of normal misspellings.

    gotometting.com (real name)
    gotoometting.com (common misspelling)
    gotwometting.com (common misspelling)
    gotometing.com (common misspelling)

In this case you can hit a parking gold mine. The problem is people smarter then I have been doing this for decades (wow I feel old). So many of the best domains are taken. You just have to be patient and wait for a new company to come about that you can take advantage of their name.

There is money to be made here...

I'm not a lawyer and this in not legal advice.

    Thank you Roger.

As it is now, I have the domain for a trademark, but, the trademark is for a specific product that has a really common word as a name. As my thinking goes, trademarks are referred to specific products, not to the word in general.

A person by the name McDonald, which runs a gas station, could advertise "Come to McDonaldīs Gas Station" without being sued by the fast food chain.

But I am not a Lawyer by any means either, so if any of you has some legal advice it will be greatly appreciated, not only by me, but by all fellow entrepreneurs here that, chances are, will find themselves is a similar situation sometime down the road.
