    Any cheaper alternatives to Quickbooks?

I'm starting a new business out of my home office and I need a way to manage all of my books to prevent a huge mess from happening around tax time. I was thinking about using Quickbooks but some people have told me that it has more features than what I need. It also seems to be a bit pricey. Are there any cheaper alternatives to Quickbooks?

Here's a suggestion. Try Quickbooks Simple Start 2009 for FREE and see if you like it.

Oh cool! So this is basically a "bare bones" version of Quickbooks for people who don't need all the extra features. I saw this product on Amazon.com but thought it was just to teach people how to use Quickbooks. I'll give it a try and see if I like it.

Now, the free version is EXACTLY the same as the version below if I'm correct. Or does the paid version of simple start have a few extra features? It doesn't make much sense to sell software that you're giving away for free.

Amazon.com: QuickBooks Simple Start 2009: Software

You said your real objection to Quickbooks at the end... Your main objection is the price. Quickbooks is a very valuable too. Whether you think you will need the features or not, I can gurrantee you that the tools it contains will help your business.

Peachtree accounting is also pretty good, but there is no replacement for Quickbooks in my mind. The customer and product tracking, the operations mgmt.... Everything is awesome.

Don't let price be part of your decision. If you are serious about knowing your business inside out, it is a valuable tool.

Try Quickbooks online - $9.95 per month, and no need to ever update software. You could also try IACEZ.com or Freshbooks.com

I believe that QB Simple Start is only free for a trial period, after that you need to buy it for $80.
