ALL OF YE you need to think outside the box ( not an ad)

I thought this mmight be a godo discussion for this board, this is one of my reasons for not visiting the board as much as i should to help out.

It seems that alot of YE's are into the same thing or have the same ideas. You want to make money, sure everyone does there is nothing wrong with that. but what i do urge is that you do it with something you have a passion for not nessisarly something you read on the internet that looks worthy.

it seems as tho many of you are still makeing pixil sites, dating sites, and blog sites. these arent making as much money like they used to, the time you spend to set these up could be time you can use to be raising money for a project you havent thought of or investing.

Coming from experiance i am urging members to look outside of the box, just becasue some people ahve made money on these types of ventures donsnt mean youll retire early. you also must remeber that the people that built those sites took alot of sweat and effort to build them day in and day out.

i have more but im sick and losing my train of thought. discuss.

I agree with certain points that you make. A lot of markets are saturated, and new ideas need to be decided on. I am only still staying in the web hosting business due to having established my own company in this sector 2 years ago. Nowadays, it is extremely difficult to set up a business in this area too.

I disagree that you say most people need to think outside the box, I think we have a fair few entrepreneurs on here currently that have some very inivative ideas.

I think a lot of this stems from the romantic notion of starting a business. People who go into entrepreneurship with the notion that "I want to start a business" but have no ideas and no problems for which they offer a solution concern me.

And then there are the people on the other side, who have effectively identified a worthy solution to a problem, but have no idea how to take it to market to make that solution available on a larger scale.

I agree and I disagree. I agree that folks need to start thinking outside of the box, and that:

    a) there are other ways to make money aside from blogs and web forums - through driven advertising revenue.
    b) that because SOME (a HANDFUL) of people have made sustainable livings off of the above (blogs, web forums and ad revenues), does not mean that this is par for the course. That's like the kids who look at NBA players (and their salaries) thinking they could do the same (which they CAN) without realizing that NBA represents 1% of professional athletes.

I just shake my head when I hear things like "I have a blog but I don't know what to write about". If you have nothing to write about, why are you blogging?! "I'm starting my own ____ forum because mine is better than whats already out there". Ok, fine, but if I take a look and realize there is NO difference between your forum and the other 30 that exist, except that yours has NO members and no posts... :sigh:

So yea, people need to start thinking - not necessarily outside of the box - but THROUGH ideas.

I dont think there are too many people on the internet that become millionaires by doing the same thing, you have to start something different to have something really special.

imho you're probably incorrect, depending on what aspect of the marketing plan you're referring to

on average, innovative product design does not win market share

I'm assumming you peered through VAE and found the "test" posts i made and made the judgement that i must be an ignorant kid that was posting to advertise my site? ..... 100% wrong, albeit those posts are funny to see there. I do need to delete them at this point.

PS thanks i thought this might be good for discussion seeing as i do not think i am the only one that sees this.

:-) no, i hadn't looked at VAE, or assumed anything prior to writing my response to ur post. and I still haven't!!!!!!!

it's nice to see someone care about the plight of others

strangely enough, entrepreneurs don't allocate their resources on basis of maximum expected returns.

if they did, you'd be running an ibank, the same as everyone one else on this board

entrepreneurs start "businesses" for reasons completely different to what your original post assumes

which is why we have a wonderful vibrant economy, complete with all sorts of wacky ventures

if you have your heart set on counseling people regarding what ventures they should and shouldn't be starting - it's in your interest not to base your advise on rationality and diligence, for these two bandits have nothing to do with entrepreneurship - particularly small/family/micro/home business
