After ten years of the same business how can you get new motivation?

My business is good and always have been but I know I am getting more relaxed and this should never happen in business.

What is a good way to get new motivation for a long term business?

Try to expand. Just because your business is doing well, it can ALWAYS do better, there is always more ground to gain. Make that your motivation.

Change something in your business, brainstorm some new ideas, try different marketing schemes, maybe even a new website design?

Why should you not be 'relaxed' in business? I would think this is the best time in your life if things aren't frantic :-)

Not sure how to renew excitement in an existing business, but may be worth branching out into something new/cutting-edge.

I found it helpful to join a networking group in a nearby city (not in my city). It was nice to introduce and discuss my business with people, helps get you re-excited about what you do. Plus, since I reached out to a new market I am getting new business and creating possible expansion opportunities.

    Charles,

What I do is grab a decent book, and try to pull inspiration from that. I would recommend the breakthrough Company by Keith Mcfarland. Its a decent read, has some really good concepts, and sounds like it may apply to where your company is at currently.

Another suggestion I would have that is a little more aggressive would be replace yourself. Fire yourself. Put someone with fresh ideas into your position and let them have it. Set expectation for them such as revenue growth or improved retention etc. Then find a new start for you. Take your experience and skills plus leverage your current financial situation and explore a new venture!

New minds lead to new innovations and renewed interest.. join networks or seminars in your field.. hire new people for new projects if you can afford to do so.. If your not your own biggest competition and critic you may not be doing well for to long, you should always be trying to create or improve on existing products and services, if you don't someone else will. If the passion just isn't there... find out where it is
