First, finish your college degree. Most of the basic information you will need, plus the contacts you generate, will be invaluable. Alternatively, you can start at the bottom and work your way up. But remember, you will have to start at the bottom.
Second, define manufacturing as it is very broad.
Insurance perspective, depends on the type of manufacturing. What NAICS code? This will determine your insurability. What about Logisitics, how you going to get your product to customer? How you going to handle production planning? The list goes on and on. If you don't know the answers to these questions, take a deep breath, acknowledge that you need more knowledge, and go get that knowledge.

alibaba.com is a good start - but it is a long road ahead. Your best bet is to probably (depending on experience/technical of designs/production needs) is to find purchase raw materials from local mart's (in NYC this is easy not sure your location), then find a small cut and sew operation to make your styles, test them in the stores or through ebay etc and see where it goes!

    Good Luck!
