Advice for Advertising Approach

Hey Ladies and Gentlemen,

The site that I currently run brings in around 1500 viewers a week. I was wondering a couple things:

One, if I were to go the advertising route, should I do something like a contract a middle man ad agency or should I try to go the route of a corporate sponsor of the site.

Two, with 1500 people visiting my site a week, what type of returns or asking price should I expect and propose to any company?

Looking forward to some interesting feedback,
JBird

What is the URL? It would be easier to answer when we see what your site is about.

If you want to set your own prices, try adbrite. If you're unsure how to price it, check out the assorted publishers Adbrite can help you advertise on.

If you want a bit less control over prices, adsense is a good way to go.

With that kind of traffic, you don't want to hustle your own advertisers (there isn't much money in it).

If the Alexa ranking is poor you cannot be receiving 1500 unique views a week. My Alexa ranking is fantastic and so is my SERPS on every major search engine and yet I only get 1300 Unique hits a month.

A quick search on google will let you know how completely unreliable alexa rankings are. ...BUT advertisers DO use them...which is tough.

eh what the hell here is one link

and a quote from alexa
"This means that, for example, the difference in traffic between a site ranked 400,000 and a site ranked 800,000 is statistically negligible. Sites ranked 100,000+ are subject to large ranking swings due to the scarcity of data for those sites. In such cases, a single user (or the lack of one) can make a dramatic impact.
" - source

and as an ex-research mathematician/ math prof, I can tell you that yes, their method of stats is very very bad lol. Thats my opinion

....to the original poster. I simply think you dont yet have enough visitors to profit from advertising, or sell it easliy. Good luck though and keep at it, as I think its a great idea and will eventually be at the point where advertising makes sense.

edited to add **you can also find that disclaimer about rankings on alexa's site itself although its buried here

That is a very nice site! My suggestion for advertising would be to use Google Adsense, as I would think it difficult to attract individual restaurants to advertise on the site. The traffic is not enough to have a lot of traffic in each city, which is what I would think would be important to most business owners.

I think that if you placed Adsense ads just above the results on each city listings you would get some clicks. Hopefully local ads would appear for the city the person was searching for.

That is my thoughts...

Really... a nice site!

Good Luck!

I would use adsense or a company like adbrite. These are your best two options until you nicrease your traffic to your website.
