Ok, The adult industry is something I have never seen mentioned on here.

But its a business - and BIG business at that.

Is Adult websites not the most popular thing online?

Obviously 18 or older...

I already involved in the gambling industry so thought why not go with the 2 evils and go into the adult industry also.

Anyone interested in joining me in a business partnership or something?

What are you thoughts? is this, is this a no no for you guys as its a slighty taboo subject.

It's a big market, but according to Alexa.com, most porn sites don't rank as high as other service/product oriented sites. I haven't really researched it, but I have always heard that the industry as a whole rakes in quite a bit of cash, but then again, so do computer corporations (when combined). The one thing that always stumps me is advertising for a porn site, and the fact that there are just so many out there. What will set your site apart from the rest (rhetorical question only, no need for details ).

If you could make the google of porn sites it could make some real money, especially when you would be the first one to jump out there like that. What kind of gambling business do you run.

I only mentioned google because its one of the only sites I know that are simple and not in your face

Many adult sites have too many pop-up which scare people away.

If we could supply just the content they want.... I think we would be on our way to success.

I make my main income from Uk horse racing.

I have a very knowledgeable business partner who knows his stuff, its all database driven and selects the horses on form, speed, previous runs, weight etc..

Some people have been mentioning alexa rankings. Take a look at the top 100 sites. Google, Yahoo, MSN, About, etc... Those are the types of sites that are making the top 100. No adult sites are there because there is no directory of adult sites that everyone goes to when they need to access as much information on that topic as possible.
That is where you come in. Fill the need.
Adult sites are notorious for spending ridiculous amounts of money on advertising, because they have it to spend. Take advantage of that.
Create a directory of adult sites (before I do, this is a good idea). Have sites that want to be at the top pay for it. Sites that don't pay still get listed, but lower down in the listings.
Let people search. Have catagories. News. Sponsored links. Run something like Google Adwords. Just don't disobey the two golden rules of directories...
No advertising on the main page, and NO POP UPS!
And make all links text links. No flashy banners & stuff like that. When people see banners, they know you are getting money for the advertising.
Start your directory this way. Have every site that wants to list on your site place a reciprocal link on their page. Google loves sites that are linked to alot, and it will help bring traffic to your site from those that are viewing the adult content and wish to view more. More traffic = higher prices for advertising. You won't get a dime for advertising if no customers ever visit your site.
Try that, see how it works.

Put an ad for a freelance webdesigner on freelance.com and craigslist.org. Also, go to Web Design 1 in yahoo chat. There are some excellent web designers in there, most who will do it for fairly cheap. If you want to do it yourself, it can be easy. Use a template from myfreetemplates.com - I use templates for all kinds of things, and I barely know HTML myself.
Give that a try!

Ok a few thoughts needed re: name and branding

Do we make it an adult word, like sex....search etc

or would a more subtile approch do.

Okay - choosing a name... Boy could I write a book on this topic!
First, choose words that relate to your topic. Start with the obvious ones... s*x, p*rn, etc (sorry if the content is too adult, i tried to edit it without removing the content itself!)
Then, go to the not so obvious ones... Girl Search, stuff like that.
Then, find a thesaurus. Preferably an online one, because a paper thesaurus can get cumbersome when typing, especially when you're looking up so many words.
Then, think of any word-games or puns you could play with the words you've gotten so far. LawnMore instead of Lawn Mower, etc.
Now, move to latin. Great source for unique titles. That is actually where Novus came from. It is latin for "new, fresh, young, inexperienced, revived, novel, unusual, extraordinary /news, novelty". Perfect for entrepreneur services geared towards youth.
There are plenty of english-latin dictionaries online.
Now, say them. Girl Search. LawnMore. What do you like best? If you can't decide, ask for advice. Even if you can decide, ask for advice. Its not just you who has to hear this name.
Once you like it, try it out. Put it on some letterhead or something, see how easy it is to make a logo out of, etc. I actually like Girl Search, because the S is curvy and could be the image of a woman... Things like that. And yes, if you want, you can use Girl Search.

P.S. - Don't say branding... Branding does nothing for small business but waste money and give false hope. Direct marketing is the wave of the future!
