Adding Live Chat to your website

Has anyone added a "Live Chat" feature to their website? If so, how can one go about doing that, what service provider do you use, and is there a way to respond to a potential customer's chat via your mobile phone?

How have your sales been affected by the addition of the Live Chat feature?

    Thanks
    -Andrew

I currently use Zopim, however LiveZilla is probably the most used. LiveZilla allows you to use a Windows app to view your online visitors and interact with them.

Quite honestly, the only reason I am using Zopim over LiveZilla right now is that I have a Linux based PC and LiveZilla has yet to come out with a Linux chat app similar to their windows one. Zopim however is remotely hosted, and has a nice clean interface for viewing your online visitors and contact them.

A Live Chat increases consumer confidence, they appreciate being able to quickly ask a question over submitting a support ticket. For a design company, it would be great!

I've played around with it a bit. I do plan on having it on my site when the new design is done next month. I've also found a service that will monitor the chat 24/7 for $200pm. This is a big deal if you deal in different time zones or even countries. I've tested a few different versions/platforms... if you have any questions feel free to send them over to me!

I used one for my previous startup and after a few days, it was decided that it was better not to have it. It really depends on your business. For ours, it was software sales so that wasn't a really good mix. We got more support questions than we did sales questions and we never intended to use live chat as a means for customer support (if this is what you're after, that's one way of doing it). In the end, it wasn't worth using for us.

    Thanks everyone!

@CGM I just added Zopim last night after reading your post and I must say I am really happy with it. Its easy to set up, free to use, and has a lot of features in the dashboard. I hope this will give me a much needed boost in sales.

    Hello Roger,

Can you share the 24-7 chat monitor service you use. How does the knowledg transfer happen with these types of companies? You send them a FAQ document I suppose? How is their English writing? Just curious as I may use them to cover my overnight chat requests. I currently use olark.com
