    Accounting Software

Currently me and my partner are in the research phase of developing a solution to a business problem on the accounting side. Im not going to be asking any specific questions until later in the thread. Any coders/accountants out there with any general advise?

If this is full-fledged, general business accounting software, I do have a piece of advice from a user standpoint: Make it easier to use than Quickbooks!!! I hate QB!

Quickbooks is amazing! I thought this thread was going to ask for a recommendation and I was about to suggest using Quickbooks

Amazing in the control it gives and the breadth of features it offers...sure. Amazing in ease of use? Not a chance!

No i am not asking you to recommend a software, im making a statement that my partner and I are in the research phase of writing a new accounting program for businesses that we can sell for a monthly fee if web based or sell licenses for full software use.

Ive also heard that many people will use quickbooks, take off many deductions that they are not suppose to take off and get audited.

I think it will be tough to compete with Quickbooks, I don't know anyone who uses Quickbooks for doing tax returns though they just use it for bookkeeping. I work at an accounting firm and most of our clients submit their records to us using Quickbooks.

Are you writing a bookkeeping program or a tax program? The latter might be an easier endeavor.

    Best of luck

rpermana we are writing all the software ourselves but thanks for the suggestion. JohnGalt, I agree with you on the impossible task of trying to compete with quickbooks. We are looking to write a program that could solve a problem in a niche market that has not been tapped. When you say tax program what are you saying in detail?

What about creating both a tax and accounting program? 'Coz right now, we do bookkeeping using QB or other accounting programs when tax season comes we still need to extract it or export it to a tax program which is another cost right? So why not combine it in one program!?

So a program that is easier to use then quickbooks and has all the accounting features that other programs have?
