    ABC initials

Would I be able to use the intial ABC in a company I will be creating. It has nothing to do with abc television network itself and stands for something completely different. THe logo will also be completely different but contain only abc in different colors...I should be able to do that, like if its not allowed thats pretty outrageous in my opinion...

    hm......honestly, i don't know......if one looks at everyone's company names/logos, I'm sure you can find similarities everywhere......

I believe the rule of thumb is that you can't have an overly similar/identical name in the SAME market....

For instance, apparently there's a "Devil wears Prada" rock band........a book........and, of course, a movie that was made.....and, I guess it's allowed because they all basically have different markets.....

was that any help? i tried....lol

Yea thanks. It's also common sense like it just would be pathetic if you couldn't and would be something like a monopoly, the start of my project begins...

Tha answer to your question is YES! The initials, "ABC" themselves are generic, in public domain, not owned by a single individual or entity and may be used freely by anyone. In fact, tens of thousands of businesses of all types, both online and off use ABC as their business name.

Dale hit the hammer on the head.

You can just go on google and look up businesses that start with ABC, what kind of business is this anyways?

Hint hint: this could get you some publicity ;]

As an example -- look at how many different "Acme"'s there are in existence! Even my company, Agora International exists all over the world.

To kinda put more to what others are saying. You will be completely fine as long as the differences are well developed. For example: Everyone knows ABC television, but here in Alabama we have a chain of state-owned liquor stores known as the ABC Stores (Alabama Beverage Control), so be sure to show well established differences and you should have no problem at all.
