    A Quick Question

Ok everyone, I try to help when possible, now if someone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

I've been Christmas Shopping - yes, I know, it's only August! I like to be prepared. I am looking at laptops for my children and came across Netbooks. What is the difference between the two?

    Hi Lisa,

Netbooks is a compact version of a laptop. It's mainly for Emailing and Web browsing. So depending on what the person wants to use it for, it's either good or bad.

A normal laptop is more powerful and faster then a netbook. So if it's an elderly person or child with little or no computer experience, I would go with the Netbook. If it's for a teenage or adult I would go with laptop.

    Thanks Brion.

My younger daughter is 10 and likes to play games on the internet such as farmtown (facebook) and other games requiring a flash player. I'm guessing that a netbook would not be worthy of her either.

I appreciate your having taken the time to respond.

Your daughter is only 10 and laptops can be expensive. I would start her off with a netbook. The netbook will let her learn the internet and basic computer functions. She can also use Google docs if she wants to learn to type.

It will save you money and if she breaks it, well, its better then breaking an expensive laptop!

You're welcome. Netbooks aren't designed for gaming use.
You can get a decent laptop for a low cost around $399 for a new one. Sounds like you don't need anything fancy at all.

No. I definitely don't need anything fancy for her. She is all ready pretty quick with typing on the computer and she uses it for her gaming and to research music and enjoys typing the lyrics into word in order to keep a song book.

My other daughter on the other hand needs somthing a little more advanced. Being a freshman in high school this year I want to be sure she has a laptop that caters to the needs of her upcoming academic career as a high school student.

Thank you all for your input. You have all definitely given me the information i was looking for.

A very basic but effective laptop I bought recently is the Acer Aspire One. They are very small though, I can nearly fit myne in my jacket pocket! It has the same capabilities as a normal sized laptop but the size and price are both much smaller. I got myne for about $495 australian
