I'm not a powerseller, but I have sold a few things on ebay recently, the past 4 months and to me, selling on ebay is a hassle. That is just my opinion though.

My husband sells on Ebay. Has been for quite a while and it brings in a nice extra income. We've sold our stuff and things for friends (commission). Books, CD's, and DVD's (anything with an ISNB) sell better on Amazon. They give you a shipping allowance too.
A couple things about Ebay. Most people guarantee they will make a decent return by upping their shipping and handling charge. Also, make sure that you have a disclaimer that states if the bidder chooses not to purchase postal insurance then you are not liable for the package being lost. It costs less than a $1.50. We had so many (scammers in my opinion) tell us that they never received their package. Funny, we always receive ours. Anyway, since we added that side note, the problem stopped.
Oh yeah, we hit garage sales for things to sell, like the books, movies, and music. Here's a couple good stories, an out of print Andrew Weil book/cassette set sold for $97 and the gal at the post office bought a Gouche (spelling) hand bag for 50 cents and sold it for $200.
good luck with it!

I bought a red Dairy Queen t-shirt at Goodwill for 99cents, and it sold on Ebay for $6.32. :-)

My step dad sent me an e-mail the other day linking to a newspaper article. His brother (in his spare time buys from yard sales, sells on eBay) had bought a plaque. He knew the name Northern Dancer, but nothing of the horse. He figured it might be worth a few hundred dollars.
Paid just $200 US for it. A link to the auction (now completed) is below.

I have been selling on eBay for almost 2 years. eBay is my full time job, although I'm not techincally a power seller since my feedback is in the 97% range. 98% is required to be a power seller. I make about 30k a year. LET ME SAY THIS: It is real hard work! The biggest hassle is shipping. I gained experience over the years and now I never have to leave the home to ship since USPS sends free boxes and supplies and they also pick up my packages for no charge since I exclusively use Priority Mail service. I send about 20 packages a day... So yeah its real hard work, but I'm doing this to learn and gain more experience for bigger things in the future. And besides, I answer to NO ONE. I'm sure most of you guys would agree with me on that.

You guys might be wondering. I sell auto products. One tip I have for a consistent income in eBay. Have multiple user ids or eBay accounts and sell simutaneously from each account. This is my strategy and it works for what I sell.

For not knowing anything about it, that page is very detailed and if he figured it was only a few hundred dollars, why is the price at $18,500 and the reserve hasn't been met? That doesn't make sense to me.

Probably because after purchasing it he realized what it was, and did research on it. After discovering what it was worth he decided to sell it on eBay. Just a guess though.

I tried selling stuff on eBay before. I did not really like it. The biggest pain: shipping. I do not have a lot of time as it is... then I take a computer to UPS, and they want to change $80 to ship it... crazy. Took it to FedEx, $70. Took it to USPS and they wanted $35. I see plenty of people selling computers with cheaper shipping, and I just do not see how they do it.

Most people use parcel post or in other words "the slowest shipping and also the cheapest" to send packages. That is why it is so cheap to send computers.
