Question A few online business ideas for you to critique

    Hi all,

Been brainstorming a few ideas recently and just wanted to get some feedback from you all....

    1) Tailor made clothing - I know this is being done but I have good contacts with offshore clothing makers and the site will offer made to measure anything you want, see in a retail shop or design youself, by uploading a photo of the item, choosing the material and customising the style, size, etc. The prices will be close to primark, better quality and of course unique for you.
    2) Wedding reviews (UK) - planning a wedding myself at the moment and find it very hard to find consolidated user reviews and links for venues, caterers, djs, cakes, photographers etc. Trip advisor for weddings?
    3) Smart online calendar - keep track of your events - i.e birthdays, aniversarys. When an event is added...links and ads will be populated to give you suggestions on gifts, ideas etc.
    4) clubers guide (UK) - user review site for clubs - seems to be lots of review sites - not user reviews and not consolidated city reviews - will have unique features that I wont disclose yet

ANy comments or suggestions will be glad to discuss in private or on this post.

    Cheers.

I like the calendar idea. Would users value the ads enough to use your calendar over something like Google Calendar?

Option 1 appears to leave just a few too many variables and if the service you're offering is any item of clothing to any person in any size at all then you're going to find yourself with either huge services or offering a sub-standard service, neither of which will be what you want.

I've got experience in the content management game in web design and development of all kinds. Any of 2,3 and 4 i'd love to help you with. I think they've all got great potential, but personally, i feel option 3 is going to be too tough to push people to use what with other web 2.0 developments already in place and Google breathing down your neck.

Here in the UK a total trip advisor service for people planning wedding seems really good. People will be planning weddings all year round for all different dates and with a number of different needs so a nicely designed, easy to use website with a big database of different firms on board would come very nicely in handy, and marketed properly it could be hugely successful.
Imagine a site will all the DJs, cake makers, dress companies, venues etc. on-board the take up could be huge and you could easily monetise from "Featured" firms and ad-selling; and you could market in bridal publications all over the place.
I know it may seem premature but i'm getting a little excited about this project, i hope you'll opt to go ahead because i'd love to be the guy backing this project's technical end.

Get in touch if you're interested in bringing your knowledge into the frame here
    Kind Regards
    Tom Knox

If your local area does not have a wedding source, I would jump on this. Google Twin Cities Bridal... this is our local wedding source for everything. They started very small, a website and a yearly magazine that people paid for. Give honest reviews about the business, as well as the style of service and products the business produces. Include other wedding related businesses - Pubs for pre-party, Travel for honeymoon, lingerie store, swimwear store (honeymoon)... plus all the expected businesses. Think outside the box and do not give people un-opinionated reviews. Give them a resource that is based on your personality (as the expert) and what you like the best.

You can have sponsors on the website with paid Ads (maybe only if they have a positive review...) and you can offer an e-mail blast monthly newsletter. Maybe pick a wedding to highlight each month, or go after a season trend for the industry... or try to get advertisers ($50 for a paragraph write-up and photo of a business) and maybe have 3 to 5 advertisers per newsletter.

If you can get this going locally, you can see what it could build into. Magazine, wedding fair, ect. This is a proven format - so if your area does not have this already - do it!
