A Business idea.. is it for me?

Hi all.

I have just turned 16 (yesterday!) and after messing around and reading books etc for around 2-3 years ( lots of trips to library) i have decided to set up my own small business on the internet. Im not looking anything too big as i have a long year with some exams coming up, but i want something i can develop.

I have come up with the idea of buying small websites, doing them up and selling them on at a small profit. I think this is a ok idea, not original but still seemed a nice project to get going and develop. But i was just wondering if any of you out there had any other ideas that may be of interest.

Thanks all

Killian

For some market research you could take a look at eBay. There are quite a few ready made sites auctioned on there so it would certainly give you an idea of the market.

Very valuable idea.

2 things necessary, have them setup with hosting and have the domain paid up for a recent point of time.

Basic knowledge will be needed as if the client needs some help with coding in HTML, you'll need to help them out.

Do you understand what it means to get a business running on the Internet? There are a lot of problems, and there's little traffic because there's too much competition out there for a small business to get going. Unless you plan on spamming people with links to your website, there's not a lot you can do. If your idea is revolutionary and totally original, it may attract visitors, but if you're just like the others, forget it.

Where are you going to get the money to buy those sites?

You may have to think twice before go ahead with this plan. TAlways think of the pros and cons of everything. If you've not come up with a list of pros and cons, don't bother doing anything.

There is no need for spamming, its a simply process. All they have to do simply look for advertisement companies, where they can possibly just put the banners for that company up on that site. You know, their is such places out their where you cn get banner impressions up.

Internet business is very different from real world business. Most of everything is based on traffic, which can be converted into revenue. If you know a lot about web design and running sites, you should have no problem doing this sort of stuff. Otherwise, you'll need to learn all the in's and out's of building, promoting, managing sites. A lot of work!

Good luck.

Tru isomnia, facts are, you have a lot of studying to do. Some want dynamic websites with PHP and MySQL coding. http://www.phpfreks.com and http://www.php.net should get you started on that.

I know several people who do this, and they make a nice living at it.

The best type of sites to create are content sites. Places people can go to research information.

Karen, can you give us the web addresses of the content type sites your talking about except for this one. How many of those sites do they need to make a nice living out of? Just one w/ lots of advertsing?

Just pick a topic that doesn't go out of style, or pick one that is at the start of a trend. Topics that people will always be looking for information about.... money, budgeting, health care, etc. Build the site, promote it, gain some advertisers, sell it. Rince and repeat.

Off the top of my head, here are some sites...

www.sharky.com
www.canadiancontent.net
www.websitepublisher.net - Chris is very succesful at building sites for profit.
